Chapter 12

Wynn and Ryan's wedding was simple, rustic, and picture perfect. The whole process, including photographs, only took a couple of hours, with the ceremony itself only lasting about thirty minutes. Ryan said a few things, Wynn said a few things, and then the pastor gave the normal wedding speech about loving each other through thick and thin and always putting God first. The whole thing was brief yet beautiful, and we had some wonderful photos to show for it.

Wynn hired a local photographer who consistently worked at the chapel and knew where and how to get the best shots. He came to the house with us after the wedding to show us the photos and let us eliminate the ones we knew we didn't want. All of us gathered around the TV in the living room as Nick, the photographer, ticked through the pictures one-by-one. He was taken aback that Wynn was open to letting everyone look at them since most brides wanted a private viewing first, but Wynn was easy going like that. We went through them as a family, choosing our favorites. If someone had an intense objection to the way they looked in one of them, Nick would either delete it or tell them he could fix it in Photoshop.

One-by-one, Nick went through the wedding photos, and one-by-one, I saw for my very own eyes how obvious Cam and I were being. In fact, we were sitting on the couch together right then as the far-to-revealing pictures came up on the screen.

I felt hot all of a sudden, and I stood up.

"Where you going?" Cam asked.

I glanced back at him, feeling thankful that the lights had been dimmed for the photo viewing. "I'm just going outside for a second," I whispered, ducking out of the way. "I'll be right back. Y'all go ahead, I'm good with all of them."

Everyone went on with what they were doing except for Cam who stood to follow me. I turned to look at him once we were far enough out of the room that no one was paying attention to us. I gave him a look like why are you following me, which he returned with a scowl.

"Where are you goin'?" he asked.

"Wherever," I whispered. "Anywhere. I just… we just... We're being too obvious. It's too much. You need to go back in there so they don't think you followed me."

"I did follow you," he said. "And I don't care what they think."

I got lost for a second looking at the side of his face, at his gorgeous jaw line. His face was capable of such distraction, that for a second, I totally forgot what I was doing.

"Don't run away, Claire," he said. He reached out and pinched at the fabric of my shirt, pulling it toward him for a second before letting it go again. I wanted to collapse into his arms, but I knew I couldn't.

"Cam, we have to take a step back," I whispered. I gestured over his shoulder to the area where everyone else was sitting in the living room.
